Nostalgia
Although the true meaning of the word "Nostalgia" is "a vehement desire to revisit ones native country" or simply "home sickness." Many people assosiate the word to the meaning of "looking back in time and remembering with fond and some not so fond memories, how things were in days of old."
These pages are a look back in time and hopefully help those of you who can remember how it was back in days of old to remember the good times and the not so good. For those of you who are too young to remember so far back then maybe you could imagine what it was like to know how your ancestors lived and what conditions and stresses that had to be endured. But lets not forget there was also laughter and community spirit which in many places nowadays isnt so.
The first pages are a look back at a 1953 magazine called "The Pea Pod" which was issued by "Bachelors" (remember them ?) a well known Sheffield factory at Wadsley Bridge 4 miles from Sheffield city centre. So spend a few minutes perusing the pages and maybe some of what you read will jog a few memories, you may even spot a few names that may be familiar and / or even connected to your family tree.
Remember that these pages are only small extracts from different sources and transcribed by yours truly. If you do happen to come across a familiar name there could be more information which may be of use to your family research including, in some cases, a photgraph, which I would be happy to scan and send you.
Did you work at Batchelors ? Why not contact me with your rememberances. Intersting stories or rememberances can be added (with your permission of course) to these pages.
